T-7: COVID-19 Testing
After my usual wake-up routine, I decided to check my email to see if I could glean any details about the testing that I might have missed. Turns out, I was right. I had glanced over something rather critical: the testing center had moved my appointment from 2/22 to 2/16. (I think I was somewhere in Oklahoma or New Mexico at the time, so I missed the email with the change in appointment time.)
Feeling rather perturbed, I logged onto the website and tried to book myself a new appointment for the day. In doing so, I discovered that all the appointments were gone; the pages I had looked at before were nowhere to be found. However, I did find a phone number to call the local testing site.
It took an annoying amount of menu navigation to get through to a person, but they assured me I could show up without an appointment at any time today. They also said they weren’t accepting any insurance, but if I can get the right form printed today, I hope my US insurance will reimburse me.
Sara drove me to the testing center, where we discovered it also did fingerprinting. Since Sara needed that done, I went in and started asking questions about getting fingerprinted. One of the ladies went outside to talk to Sara about it while I filled out the COVID-19 testing form.
Once I was done, I got taken back for testing. On my way back, I overheard an argument between two employees. A customer had called in demanding to know why his PCR test was negative but his antigen test was positive. The employees were spouting nonsense, so I couldn’t help interjecting, “It means he doesn’t currently have COVID, but had it in the past.” I got a strange look, but the argument stopped after the nurse doing the testing agreed with me.
Then it was my turn. The nurse didn’t explain anything, just told me to tilt my head back and then stuck the swab down my nose. It was definitely uncomfortable, but not as bad as it could be, because she didn’t make it all the way back to my posterior pharynx. I didn’t correct her. 😛
When I told her it was uncomfortable, but not as horrible as I had been told, she was shocked. She thought I’d already had a COVID test before and apologized profusely for doing the swab without informing me of the process beforehand. While she should have, I brushed it off because she was partially correct: I had known what to expect.
All that’s left is to wait and see what the results are…
